Goodtextures first went online in 2009 and has undergone several iterations since then, with each upgrade resulting in improvements in design, functionality, and content.
The core aims of Goodtextures have remained the same over the years: to share high-quality content, textures, ideas, and knowledge free of charge with the global CG community. What's new now is that we are extending a hand to like-minded artists and giving them the opportunity to upload and share their texture-related work on this platform.
Nearly all of the images currently listed on Goodtextures were photographed by me and later edited in Photoshop. Almost all of them are presented in the industry-standard JPEG format.
I come from a CG-related background and have been working as an Environment Artist for many years. The technology and advancements in recent years have been enormous, especially when using fantastic programs such as Z-Brush or Substance Painter/Designer. The way in which textures are created and used has also changed dramatically, which is why I have created a PBR material category that offers materials for use in Substance Painter or any 3D/Game engine software. These materials can be downloaded without the need for registration on the Goodtextures site :)
